Fooling Around In Folgarida - March 1991

As the buzz of my first year's performance (or lack of - if you've read my Marilleva Blog then you'll know what I'm talking about) on the snow hadn't yet died down (or perhaps in recalling I was following what Shakespeare wrote in Henry V "But he'll remember with advantages what feats he did that day"), I readily agreed to joining a small core of the people I met in 1990 in returning to Italy for more skiing exploits. This time we'd be based in Folgarida, a small ski resort in the Trentin… Continue

Return to Söll Mountain - February 2009

I've rarely returned to the same ski resort, preferring, in the metaphorical sense, to add more notches on my skis. However, last year I came across such a good deal to book the Hotel Postwirt in Söll for the end of February 09 that I was compelled to ignore my personal rule… Continue

Here We Go - Feet Firmly Planted In the Air - Experiences Skiing For The First Time

It was the winter of 1990
that saw me take my first inelegant steps on skis, and to be honest there hasn’t been that much
improvement since. Like many people before the snow fairy sprinkled her magic upon them; I could not
see the point of going somewhere cold for a… Continue

Glaciating in Solden, PACing it back to Austria - March 2008

Set high up in the Oetztal Valley with the Gaislachkogl (3058m) flanked by two glaciers, Sölden is a year round skiing centre and lying only 14km from the ski resorts of Obergurgl and Hochgurgl further down the valley and it was to this resort that the Positive Altitude Club came on i… Continue

Grinning in Bad Gastein, March Austria 2007

The Second Civil Service Positive Altitude Club (PAC) Holiday took the group of hardened snowloving civil servants to the Austrian resort of Bad Gastein. On route to Bad Gastein, we entered a tunnel and the tour guide grabbed the microphone and said "As we leave the tunnel, quickly loo… Continue

Ah the old Supersport Six Star. A wonderfull set of skis, but I find them very tiring as you have to keep forcused on them 100% of the time, let it slip and they let you know. I've now got a pair of Fischer Fuse 76 (based on the old AMD model) whi...

Hi Martin, That's corrected it - one of the photo hyperlinks had corrupted. I seem to make a habit of getting lost when skiing. Scary, as you say, but it makes for a good tale at the bar later. Have a good weekend
